The mystery of Tully’s Tiles

I was a big fan of the Tully's Tiles sign in Smithfield. Its crucifix-like qualities reminded me of Salvador Dali’s painting Christ of Saint John of the Cross with its unusual perspective.

I was thinking about including the sign in a Moss Reid short story. Something along the following lines...

... and reached Tully's Tiles, or what used to be Tully's Tiles. All the carpets in his gaff came from Bargaintown over the years,  most of his tiles from Tully’s Tiles. Even when the Tullys shut up shop in Smithfield and moved to Blanchardstown or the bog end of nowhere or wherever, they left the sign there, stuck on the corner of that old building near the corner of Smithfield Square. It was a fixture, like a sky-blue crucifix, like it had been there for ever and would stay there for ever too. Then one morning he looked up and it was gone.  Gone for ever. A complete mystery. Like it had lost its metal moorings and floated free...
